Almost daily I feel myself moving towards trying irrigation. The pancaking mess has me really frustrated.
My first question is do I need to switch pouches. Currently I am using a one piece sensura mio which I really like.
Second would I need to change pouches daily.
How long would it take me to get on "
schedule"
I have had very few blowouts over the last eighteen months. I would hate for this process to create more mess!

Murph irrigates through a 1-piece, but most people use a 2-piece system or wear stoma caps (mini 1-piece disposables) that you would change with each irrigation.

I got "on schedule" right away, and reliably get 24 hours with no output. I can usually stretch it to 48 hours if I'm travelling.

If you're using a stoma cap, you just remove it, irrigate, then put on a new one. Because there's little to no output, you don't need to worry about having a wafer that lasts more than a day or two. The caps are small, flat, lightweight, almost nothing at all, but they could hold a bit of output if needed.

If using a 2-piece system, you would apply the wafer as usual, and the irrigation sleeve (from the same manufacturer) snaps onto the wafer. You can reuse 2-piece pouches as long as you like. I use a 2-piece; if the wafer is ready to leak, it does it during irrigation, in a controlled environment.

I say go for it! Nothing to lose. If you don't like it, you can just stop, but I don't think that will happen. Everyone is different of course, but I had good success starting on day two. I choose to irrigate daily but have gone 48 hours if I want to. I wear a stoma cap and change it daily with irrigation. I keep mio pouches on hand at home and with me when I am out in case of unexpected output. It really is just for my own peace of mind. I have unexpected output about once every 4-5 months. I did wear a 2 piece system in the beginning until I felt confident with my results. you will use less supplies and your issues will be gone. It's a win win. I recently switched from Hollister to Coloplast Sensura Mio Click. I irrigate daily and wear the Sensura midi pouch. I rarely have any output but it happens occasionally. The pouch isn't cumbersome and gives me piece of mind. Coloplast doesn't have an irrigation sleeve that snaps on their Mio wafer. I use my Hollister sleeves with their belt and its fits snugly on the Sensura wager. Hollister will send you a sample sleeve and belt. Sleeves last a long time and come 5 to the box.
