We had a large bear in our backyard at 4am Halloween morning. My husband the early bird saw it from the back deck. (I missed it altogether with mixed emotions as I know they are here, yet like to forget about them.) It was near our winter bird feeder. First one spotted on the premises. Hopefully, the cold will set in & Mr. Bruin can find a nice cozy place to hibernate far away.

How cool TDAT. We have bear in my area but they really do tend to stay away from populated areas unless they need water. I've been thinking about you and our mutual bird interest every evening lately. I've had a Great Horned Owl take up residence in a tree in my backyard. Every evening I start hearing the soft hoot at about 9 PM. This is a real treat since I have not had Owls in regular residence in my area for the 30 years I've lived here.

Linda, I'm so glad you have your owl. Occasionally we have a little screech in our maple in the front yard. Not much activity at the feeder bird-wise just yet. Bear has not returned to do damage thank goodness. Have been enjoying Cornel's site with its woodpeckers, geese & jays. We are recovering from a respiratory virus that was rampant around here. One of those that leaves you very weak, but managed to plant daffodils in the moonlight garden bed for next spring. Something to look forward to in wintry February! Good to have your post & keep dreaming!

Visiting Sapsucker Woods is on my travel list as I grow nearer to retirement and have more time to travel. My dad spent a couple of years getting a graduate degree at Cornell but I was under 5 so don't remember too much. A beautiful area but not so much in the winter.
