Hollister Irrigation Sleeves

Hey, everybody:

I haven’t been here in quite a while, and perhaps this has already been a topic of discussion, but I just heard from the medical supply company that Hollister is no longer making irrigation sleeves. Does anybody know anything about this? The woman who just called me from Comfort Medical Supply (they took over from Liberty — remember them, with the Wilford Brinkley commercials?) said they don’t know why the sleeves are being discontinued or when or if there will be more of a different sort or design available from the manufacturer. Comfort MS has some in stock but can’t get any more after that. The woman was unclear on whether the irrigation kit would be available, but it is not available right now.

Soooooo. Does anybody know what’s up with all that? And does anybody know a good alternative if Hollister is abandoning irrigation supplies?

I was just imagining making my own irrigation sleeves out of the yards and yards of clear plastic I have in stock for hurricane preparations. And it wouldn’t be any more pleasant to do that than it is to prepare for hurricanes.

If you're using wafers, you might be able to use another brand if you get one with the largest possible hole, so it fits over the coupling instead of snapping onto it. Hold it in place with a belt.

Do you reliably have no output between irrigations? You could switch to a stoma cap, and combine any brands you like.

Hey All,
Some of you already know this but I don't use sleeves at all. I irrigate daily through the tail/opening of my one piece Coloplast Sensura. I have also used the Mio.

That doesn't sound right....
I've not heard anything like that. That almost sounds like your supply company isn't getting the prices they want to sell the sleeves at, so they are not going to sell them as they can't make as much of a profit any more. Don't know that for a fact, but I would be very disheartened if that is the case as Hollister makes all of equipment that I prefer to use. I would hate to have to try and find a new system....
I hope this isn't true.....

I just received some Hollister irrigation sleeves from Byram. There has been a change however. They used to send a box of five sleeves. Now they just send four of them packed in a zip lock bag.

We received your inquiry regarding the Hollister Irrigation Sleeve. This is indeed FALSE. There is no need for you to fret.

Thank you all for the replies. I did indeed receive the sleeves in my most recent order. The woman to whom I talked at the supply company talked to me like I was mentally defective as well as with the stereotypical speech pattern of those who are very young who believe that anyone who must use medical supplies must be too old, and therefore not too sharp, to understand what she was saying. I really, really hate that.

It may very well be that this company will stop distributing Hollister, and if that is the case, I will switch. With Hollister’s stuff, I’ve never had any problems other than the usual occasional rip in the wafer or a clogged filter in a pouch. The irrigation stuff works great for me. But then, the woman I talked to would probably attribute my unwillingness to change to my “advanced” age of 56! :D
