Intense muscle spasms after proctectomy

Post by Chickadee13 »

Hi, I'm a 21yr old female who just had a proctectomy with temp loop illeostomy which is surgery 2/3, starting the process of reversal and j-pouch construction. I am 1 week post op and a day ago I started to get INTENSE muscle spasms in the lower right side pelvic region. When it first started I had assumed it was something to do with the stents that they had placed in my ureters during surgery, but it has since moved and I don't think that's the case. At one points it felt as if the spasms were near the base of my urethra, but they then moved back up to near my stoma site and now is a spasm between that area and my lower rib. I went to the ER yesterday because the pain was so intense and they diagnosed me with bladder spasms and sent me on my way with a med specific to this. This seemed to make sense by the doctors description, but in looking it up the symptoms are much different and generally make people feel the intense need to urinate which has not been the case for me. the pain is intermittent, but when it acts up it is one of the most intense pains I've ever experienced. I am wondering if anyone has experienced similar things, or might have any ideas as to what it may be? Also any suggestions for how to manage/ lessen the pain would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I am 53 and had bladder removed just over 2 years ago and have developed muscle spasm in my left leg which not has become painful. Mt right arm is now too starting to hurt. This stared 1 year ago and I have been to numerous doctors and specialist and no one can come up with an answer. I've been to an acupuncturist and there is a spot on my leg that hurt when he inserted the needle and he told me that spot relates to the bladder. When getting a pedicure, there is a spot on the bottom of my foot that also hurt when massaged and she showed me a book that showed it was related to the bladder. Starting to lose my mind over it. Trying a homeopathic this week. I'll let you know if anything comes of it. Not getting my hope up.
