upcoming Indiana augmentation cystoplasty

My husband is planning to have Indiana augmentation cystoplasty surgery this summer & I could use advice and support from members of this board as I know the recovery will likely be difficult. For some background, he had a simple prostatectomy two years ago that left him with scar tissue that caused a stricture in an area we are told would be difficult to operate on. He self catheterized for several months and seemed to be doing OK. Then around Thanksgiving, he could not urinate and the doctor could not get a Foley all the way in. So, he was sent to hospital to place a suprapubic catheter. He doesn't like wearing a bag & wants to pursue this surgical option. I'm concerned that this surgery could set him back instead of making things better. He was able to speak with one patient who had the surgery & seems to be doing OK. Still, this surgery seems to be so rare plus can lead to many complications from what I've read. I would like to hear from anyone that can offer support as far as the recovery and how much of a normal life is possible. He is an unusual case as he does not have cancer or spinal cord injury. Also, what information would be helpful for him to have prior to surgery? Does anyone have thoughts on how some potential complications can be prevented? I appreciate any support from this community. Thanks in advance!
