Steve:
So the pendulum has reversed direction . . .

Your healing intestine has been more prone to slow motility speed and low volume output in your prior posts, requiring you to drink 8 oz of grape juice and a dose packet of Miralax to keep things moving along. Now your intestine has picked up speed and is needing some help with Imodium to slow overly-fast transit.

Imodium is safe to use. In the case of super hyper-active motility, people will take upwards of 8-10 Imodium caplets a day.

Be forewarned . . . Too much Imodium can cause rebound constipation and slowed to a crawl motility.

I would be cautious, in your case, of dosing 2 Imodium caplets at a time simply because your healing intestine has been under-powered with slow, slow motility and is only now moving along at a good clip. Suggestion: Take one Imodium tablet. Wait 20-30 minutes and evaluate your symptoms before electing to take a second Imodium tablet.

During the first 6-8 months with my ileostomy, I had quickened intestinal transit with highly liquid fecal output, high volume output. I think this is true for many people in the early stages of recovery with a new ileostomy.

What worked for me: I would take a dose of liquid Imodium 20-30 minutes before eating. Taking Imodium before eating was more helpful than taking Imodium in response after the fact to a geyser of diarrhea/highly liquid output. I also found liquid Imodium to be more effective than Imodium caplets.

While diarrhea/loose stool is never fun, in your case it is encouraging in that it shows that your intestine is recovering and regaining in motility. Yeah!

Recovery from ileostomy surgery is a process with unexpected twists and turns. It is like putting a jig-puzzle together . . . And later finding a new way of putting the pieces of the puzzle together.

You are doing OK-alright.

How is the rehabilitation stay going for you? Are the PT and OT therapy sessions helpful?

We are all rooting for you. You have a built-in fan club right here, on this forum.
