Hello to all people with an ostomy,

My name is Leslie Miller, a doctoral student at the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK in the Department of Sociology (an equal opportunity institution). I am a former ostomate and am beginning my dissertation, which is a study on the experiences and perceptions of people with ostomies.

I completed the survey but didn't leave my contact info, which may have been a mistake. I think one comment in instructions suggested just doing the survey could trigger some side effects. I have anxiety on the anniversary of my surgery, and thinking about my post ostomy feelings has brought back some anxiety. Oh well, my anniversary is only a month away. Glad to help your study!

where on Earth did these crazy questions come from? in 11yrs with a colostomy, I have never thought about 80%or more of these questions.. So many seem to have a built in basis to begin with, then your only option is to agree or disagree, where is the "No comment" provision? many of these questions I have no option on, they are too left field to even consider. I see redundant questions too, more or less just re-worded, but asking the same think. clean, dirty, stinky.

put a mathematical number on "most people think"? with 400 mill people in US, my guess "most people" is about 75% or 300 mill. i have no idea what 300 mil people think about most of these questions, and would NEVER make that assumption. science vs pseudo science.

if you really want to do REAL research, find ALL the ostomy chat rooms, go thru and read every post. do research by observation, then ask questions......

really, if you were looking at apartments, why would you tell the owner you have an ostomy? Is there a law that state ALL medical conditions must be stated in all cases?

all these crazy surveys seem to, more or less, ask the same questions.
