When to worry about low output?

I was just discharged 2 days ago after having my rectum removed and getting my colostomy due to cancer. Output was happening the day before just fine - but not much in the last day.

I’ve had plenty of food and drink, and also gas coming into the pouch. No pain, nausea, or anything like that.

Are there days when you just don’t go as often?

(I’ve also called my surgeon just in case, but wanted to ask the people with more experience here too.)

I had same surgery 5 months ago. I have gone up to 3 days without much output.

One day of little output and no pain is not worrisome.

Are you considering irrigation once your surgeon clears you for it? That would get you going, but it's probably too soon after surgery.

Thanks everyone!

The nurse suggested Miralax which got everything moving again.

I am definitely looking forward to learning about irrigation and giving it a try. The surgeon even mentioned 6-8 weeks would be great for a follow up to cover it. (Also looking forward to the WSOP this year, poker pro!)

Everything takes a little time. BTW do not get caught stashing aces in your pouch!! Good luck on the WSOP
