I am posting after a long time. We have spent past couple of weeks at the hospital with lots of unanswered questions.
My husband (40) with history of Crohn's had an ileostomy surgery on March 22nd after a perforation. He was put on very strong antibiotics. After his surgery he had very good appetite and was able to eat large amounts of food. But a week later he developed high fever and they found an abscess for which they put a drain in. His appetite still remained good. After few days they said it was more than an abscess , but a fistula. So drain had to be left in now for more days till fistula heals up. After 6 weeks on being on pretty strong antibiotics they stopped it , but that caused him to get a very high fever. And they now found another abscess which is not drainable. Now they have switched his antibiotics to another one. The problem now is that , ever since we stopped the first antibiotics he has lost his appetite completely and very nauseous. Taking nausea medication almost every day. Cultures have never grown anything, so they are at a loss. His paltelet count has been constantly going high every week. They did an ileoscope and said all looked fine.

He has been on bed most of the day and no strength to get up and walk. We were hoping 10 weeks post surgery he would have been in a much better place.

Anyone experienced nausea and loss of appetite ?

try medical marijuana. I personally don't care for the stuff, but I had some a while back after dinner, and a couple hours later i ate a full dinner again. smokers I know are on the chubby side.

Ya. Even if you don't like it. Give it a try. I don't smoke but when I was younger i indulged a bit. When I did I'd go through a whole bag of crunchy cheetos in no time flat.
Losing your appetite is definitely no fun. I lost mine while in the hospital after my third surgery. That was close to 4 years ago. Weirdest feeling. One of the weirdest feelings I had in my entire life. The smell of food made me nauseated. No rhyme or reason why this happened to me. I got my appetite back. But it has never been the same since.
I hope you can get it figured out. Because it's dangerous. I lost so much weight I couldn't afford to lose. And I still and probably will never get it back.
Try some weed. Just a puff or two. No need to get blown away with it. But if one or two puffs does not work. Try a couple more. I wouldn't smoke a whole joint at once.
May just fall asleep instead of getting hungry. Lol.

if he is still having high fevers i would suggest a consult with an infection disease doctor. he should also have cultures done again while he is off of antibiotics as antibiotics will mask the infection. and what hospital are you going to? is it a major trauma center/teaching hospital. or a community hospital that is small? if it is a small community hospital i would recommend getting him to a trauma center or teaching hospital as they are generally more aware of complicated issues and can figure this out for him. i wouldn't be too concerned about him not eating right now as his body is riddled with infection. if you can at the very least get some protein in him either by using a protein shake or by him eating that would be ideal. i would recommend drinking something like boost or ensure. at this point i would also have him checked for sepsis and do that immediately as if he has it and it is not treated properly it could kill him.
