Better without skin prep?

I have had a colostomy for almost 6 years now and it has been a pretty bad struggle to make it work with the dental profession I’m in. I have always used two layers of skin prep spray and tried it thoroughly before I put the pouch on. Was ok, but had to change the pouch at least once a day and had a few little accidents over the years. The other day I forgot my stray and the seal is so much better. So I haven’t been using it. The question is how my skin is gonna hold up?

I never use skin prep. As long as I change my flange regularly and pay attention to any itching underneath then my skin is fine.

I'm a "less is more" kind of guy. I don't like anything under my flange. I do irrigate, so that helps, but for me, I just place the flange on a nice dry, clean surface.

I do not use anything under the flange either. A few years back I did have an issue with becoming allergic to the tape on the flange I was using and switched to the Hollister New Image tapeless. Works well for me.

I have an ileostomy and like the last two posters don't use anything like skin prep or even adhesive remover....I use an Eakin seal with my flange and usually dust with Stomahesive powder....I change my flange and pouch every five, six or seven days....

I only use prep if I am having a skin issue. I'm one of the 'less is better' types here. I think the flange adheres much better on clean dry skin.

I use it but have forgotten to use it at times.
Really not much if a difference when I skipped it.
I don't have raw skin it just gets itchy.
Other issues bring that on.
But most times I use it just in the hopes it will keep the itch down.
I don't think it does. But. Like I said. I can always hope.
The itchy is not from the wafer. It's a all over skin issue.
Like some have said. I think the less products that that you can get away with the better.
Richard.

i agree with less is more i have found the skin barrier arcs from brava and these for me are a must before the wafer goes on and afterward. it is like a skin barrier. without it and my skin get all raw and weepy. for weeks till it is healed. i usually change every 3 days. i am hoping once my basketball size hernia is repaired things will change but this works for now.

I can't use skin prep; even Cavilon irritates my skin.
