Sometimes my stoma will get bigger just prior to output. Especially if I've had not out put for a day or more. Cheese can bind me up big time sometimes. Has your mother not had out put recently? Is there any pain? I have a piece of paper that talks about a blockage, guess it's not uncommon for a stoma to get bigger when dealing with a blockage.

If she is having any type of pain or discomfort, she might want to call or see a doctor.

no her back got full and burst because she has broken her back and has IBS. So she had a flare up and due to her back her bag burst before I could get her to the bathroom. All the things we had cut were too small because it had swollen up. However IBS isn't new and she has had several flare ups without it being swollen

Stoma blockages can cause stoma swelling. Is she in pain? Mine started swelling and it was the start of a hernia, unfortunately.

Stomas expand and contract as the result of normal peristalsis. If she is not in pain or the swelling comes and goes it could be normal functioning.

You might want to start cutting bigger holes in the wafer. Do you use a barrier ring? I use Adapt Barrier rings, place it on the wafer prior to putting wafer on my skin. It fills in any exposed skin areas.

Good luck,
