I had mesothelioma cancer surgery in July. Cancer spread to two thirds of my colon which was removed. Thus I have a temporary ileostomy.

The cancer is all gone. I’ve had 2 CT scans which shows no signs of cancer. My surgeon says it’s my choice whether to have the reversal or not. I could have the procedure done in January.

I think I want it done. But I’d like to hear from others with a similar (only one third of colon remaining) situation.

Is a third of the colon enough for me to expect semi-normal bowl movements?

I used to have 1-2 bowl movements per day pre-surgery. What should I expect post-reversal?

Thanks in advance for all comments. I am really nervous about what choice to make; keep the ileostomy or reversal/takedown ?

My colon was removed in Sept the 25th and small intestine hooked up to a 6 inch stump, all is well and when it wants to go 2 much, i take imodium which is safe to use daily, 1 pill is all i use and have had no issues with making any mess at all....

I had emergency colostomy surgery in Jan. 19. My reversal is scheduled for December 6th. I also have now a parastomal hernia. Bottom line” I’m so stressed out worrying about the upcoming surgery. Do they put you to sleep before inserting the tube in your nose? This is my first time in the forum
