New Colostomy Device Coming Soon

Hi All , not sure if others are aware but B.Braun are launching a new device next year .It's called Capsule Be 1 or something similar .I called B.Braun and though it was on the British website , the person answering had never heard of it .That's kind of typical here in the UK  Anyway ,I persevered and finally someone who had heard of the company's product rang me back .I got sent a few to try - it is not invasive ! (ie it doesn't go INTO the stoma ) it is for colostomy's only .You don't need to be an irrigator , you just need to know when you've been and you can apply it then .It's a barrier/wafer /(plate we call it in the UK ) and a small flat device clips onto it .The aim is to be bagless for a few hours .It has a gas button which you push occasionally to let built up wind out of ( it's not filtered so maybe away from people ?) .If you feel the urge to go , it has a built in very simple clear bag which you can get at by pulling the front of the device , and you can nip off to the toilet and "go " into it .The device part is then binned but you can re-use the plate/barrier after cleaning it and put on another device .
Cost is a very important issue whichever country you live in .Everyone must have heard how the NHS is under enormous strain ,and I know Healthcare in the U/S is very expensive .I have no idea what this will be costed as ,I couldn't even guess .It sounds ( for anyone who has heard of it rather like the vitala ( Jimbob you'll know ) but it is less bulky , more efficient in terms of it has a built in bag , not a concertina put you on thing ,and you can let gas out .I haven't been able to form an opinion as I only got a few - the device has already been trialled and approved ,and is up and running in some countries already .I think ( not sure for certain ) it is in some European countries already but I think I may have read it is going to become available in the U.S. but you'd have to research it .Obviously it is meant to be a silencer also .Well , I hope I have alerted people to it , in case the launch is missed by us .If you are up for a new device have a look at B.Braun's site , you will find it :-
Be 1 - B. Braun
https://www.bbraun.com › product-catalog › ostomy-care › two-piece-system ,sometimes called Capsule Cap because that's what it looks like .It has a pouch that clips onto the barrier plate too in between device use.

Well, I don't expect this to be available in the U.S. any time soon, considering that B.Braun has decided to stop selling ostomy supplies in the U.S. entirely. See https://www.bbraunusa.com/en/products-a ... stomy.html and note the message near the top: "Notice: B. Braun Medical Inc. will no longer provide ostomy supplies as of December 31, 2019. Please seek alternative products from your supplier of choice."

It's been only 4 years since B.Braun decided to enter the North American market for ostomy supplies, and their decision seemed very tentative, with only a single product line, their "Flexima 3S" two-piece system. (They sell many other kinds of ostomy products outside North America.) At this point, since they haven't become competitive with the top 3 manufacturers in the U.S. (Hollister, Coloplast and ConvaTec), they're apparently giving up on the ostomy market entirely in the U.S. (They do sell other kinds of medical supplies in the U.S.). As far as we know, they'll continue selling ostomy supplies in Canada, but still, probably nothing more than the basic Flexima 3S two-piece system.

Hi Bob , thanks for that .I have just looked at the U.S. site and am disappointed there is no sign of the
Be 1 capsule cap being available in the U.S.
The pouch though that is available via the suppliers listed on their site - some of them carry the Flexima 3 S pouch and barrier which go with the Be 1 Capsule Cap .However - as you say , there is the large announcement across the top of the site saying B.Braun ostomy items will not be available after the 31st Dec .It's a mystery to me .I had hoped everyone would have had the chance to try it , but apparently not .Shame

thanks
Lola.

Interesting concept. An airbag for the stoma hah. Deploy on output!

I'm a ConvaTec person, would love to see them do something similar. With irrigation, I typically have very little output if any, but situations come up where there is evacuation, and this would be nice.

Hi all , well the much awaited Capsule Cap BE 1 by B.Braun has not yet been added to the NHS drugs tariff , which means you can't order it .As usual , I think the problem will be it's too expensive .It's a damn shame we keep seeing patents for new innovations , then they disappear without a trace .

I read recently tentative attempts were being made by a team in London , who were trying to invent a bagless stoma , which would be placed in the belly button ! I doubt we'll hear much of it again .
Always interested to hear of new developments , so if you hear anything , please post :D

The only new product I've seen lately is for ileostomates and is the TIES implant. One needs to think carefully about this as it's internal and must be implanted surgically. Also from England. Not for me! https://ostomycure.com/

Lola,

Yes, I wonder, too. Not for me at this point. Have had enough surgeries and if I need another, it may be for scar tissue. I'm not interested in that product but others may be.

Hope you are well.

Thank You for running this resource.

It is an enlightening experience to be able to read the Journies of Others.

I note that you tried to ‘research’ TIES and have shared some information in this connection .
I would very much like to connect with the Patients who, like myself, have had TIES implanted and explanted under Clinical Trial – I believe there to be 11 of us – 4 of whom were in the UK.

My initial ileo stoma was skin level & active as it was more below skin level for most of the time. (This was before our nice convex products & pop on & off pouches currently available.) I recall asking my surgeon if there was any way they could implant a plastic ring directly around the stoma that a bag could be screwed on & off like a jar lid. The products mentioned above remind me of that.

I'm kinda with you on the no more surgeries.
I've only had four. And only one was bearable.
(to remove a pouch and get the ileo)
I don't ever want my belly cut again. Jeez.
I went in kind of naive and came out very enlightened.
I think I'm fine with what I have.
And that looks expensive too.
