Leakage with my ostomy
I just had surgery 1/29/20 and am learning with my new ostomy bag. I had my bladder removed because of cancer. It seems that after a day or two the urine starts to leak. I'm not sure if it could be the barrier ring breaking down or there is another problem. When I take off my bag & start over it seems like the barrier ring has dissolved some. What could be my problem?
Re: Leakage with my ostomy
I have an Ileostomy and didn't have much luck with Barrier Rings. Instead I found that a nozzle wide smear of barrier paste, provided the most effective seal around the stoma. I initially ordered Hollister Karaya 5 Barrier Paste by mistake. But have stuck to this product as it is so effective at sealing and gives no reaction to my highly sensitive skin. A Tube can last me three months. It took me a couple of months after the operation for swelling and stitches to settle down and even out the skin. I tend to change my bag every one to three days to keep my skin reaction to a minimum. Keep experimenting and you should find the solution.
