new hollister products
HI im new here and im just wondering if those of you using the new products from Hollister are satisfied with them?? Im still looking for a replacement for the center point lock system (3703) that was my faithful for 24 years. Its my understanding from talking with the Hollister reps that the center point lock was too costly for the company any longer but the new product line that they are encouraging me to try is hardly comparable. So flimsy and my wear time is no more than a day. Hard to have any confidence to do the things I use to. So frustrating.
Re: new hollister products
For me, the Hollister soft convex has been a winner. I had to give up my Convatec Tupperware because the ring was irritating my skin. This was the only one piece that worked when I began searching.
Re: new hollister products
I too loved the Hollister center point system. (8342) Used it for over 10+ years. There new product tine was not working for me. I had to switch over to Coloplast SenSura Mio. You might want to check them out. They will be happy to send you samples.

Re: new hollister products
So far, of the other brands ive tried, it looks like coloplast is top of the list. Definitely better than hollisters new products. Hollister just seems like they have completely lost sight of quality and in talking to them on the phone, they don't seem to really care
Re: new hollister products
When I complained the first time, they told me most people were very happy with the new product lines, some how, I don't think so!! I believe it was the 2nd wafer, I had put on in the morning, by that evening, I was changing the bag when a seam just spit open. The good news, we were home, but if we were out and about like at a restaurant, it could have been very bad. Nothing like smelling like you poop your pants, or having active output. It would have been pouring out of that wafer and on to me. Am I suppose to change that wafer in a very public bathroom??
That situation also scared my husband too, said we can not live with that type of a product. Got on line, and ordered about 6 mths worth. When I complained about that incident, they just dismissed it. I told them, I would have paid more $$$ to get those products back. Maybe when there sales go down enough, they might reconsider bring back the center point system.
It was Karen here who turned me on to Coloplast.

Re: new hollister products
I had a similar experience talking with Hollister, they told me how they've had rave reviews of their new products...I told them I highly doubt it. My distributor is echoing my sentiments as well. Its interesting that they are making a similar product to the center point lock line for securitea USA, but cant continue the line for us past customers. I told them that I would have gladly paid more for the product, but that didn't seem to matter. Hows that for customer support. So frustrating.
Re: new hollister products
I generally like Convatec. Kind to my sensitive skin. Hit a snag while ordering recently -- Convatec's EASE strips have the wrong billing code number and this presents issues. Lately, I've been more impressed by Coloplast. I'm trying to find a GOOD high-output pouch for my ileostomy. Unfor, Coloplast's make pancaking a big challenge. Convatec's pouches get very rigid and uncomfy after a while. I may have to use theirs though.
I just ran across TRIO. Anyone ever hear of this firm? https://trioostomycare.us/
Thanks, all.

Re: new hollister products
Interesting comment. Back in 2004, I left the hospital following surgery to remove my cancerous tumor, I had Convatec products. I really liked them until I developed an allergic reaction to their product sometime in 2006. Switched to Hollister and was using them ever since until they discontinued my favorites wafer/bags appliance. Now I use Coloplast.Diane C wrote: 2020-02-20 12:43:20 I generally like Convatec. Re: new hollister products
Switching products seems to be a good idea. I started with Convatec but my needs have changed since going from a colostomy to an ileostomy. Hollister used to make such comfortable products. Hmmm, I just ordered some with high-output pouches and hope I didn't make a mistake. I used to hate the locking mechanism on Coloplast but admit that the high-output pouches were easy to use. Well, I'll see how I fare with Hollister although I've read a lot of complaints...
My skin is very sensitive. I never use taped barriers now. Have been trying various products to square off my barrier. I do like EASE strips by Convatec. I had a problem with Brava strips but they now seem ok. Years ago, I used pink Hy tape but that gets itchy.
Time will tell. Glad you seem to have found a solution, Nickolas.

Re: new hollister products
I have been using Hollister New Image Ceraplus skin barriers since I started (17 months). It is great for sensitive skin. When I use any other product, my skin breaks out. Also-- a WOC nurse suggested that I use the ceraplus barrier ring as well. I put the barrier ring around my stoma first, then apply the New Image Skin Barrier. I haven't had ANY problems with leaks since I started doing this. On the other hand, I'm not a fan of the Hollister pouches! They make so much noise! I walk around and it sounds like I have grocery bags stuffed in my pants! When I contacted Hollister, I was told they are working on a new product (can you say discreet?)

I totally agree with you! the new pouch is horrible... I never had a problem until like December - I have been using them for over 1 1/2 years. I called and asked Hollister what happened... there reply to me was that there contract with the plastic company they used to use, which wasn't renewed and they had to find a different one. Sounds like quite a lot of people are complaining about it... but I can tell you if they don't change it I will not be using there products again. Currently searching for something that doesn't sound like I have a plastic wrapper on my side. If anyway has any suggestions please let me know.
I tried Convatec but was so uncomfortable and the adhesive made me break out. Just ordered a sample of Coloplast - i didn't like there products in the past but am desperate to find something quite so people don't know I have an ostomy. Any other companies out there? I am willing to pay more , just don't want to sound like I have a stupid bag attached to me...

Re: new hollister products
Due to my parastomal hernia, I wear an abdominal binder throughout the day. Usually coupled with an UnderArmor compression shirt. The use of either one reduces the noise of the pouch as it keeps the pouch close to my skin and reduces it's noisy movement. But I agree, the new Hollister pouches make significantly more noise than they used to...

Re: new hollister products
I just ordered new products and may have made a mistake. I'm now using a high-output 2-piece pouching system. Not thrilled with any but had first used Convatec. I do like Convatec's Durahesive (and Stomahesive) barriers BUT the pouches became crinkly and noisy after getting wet. Hollister's did not in the high-output line of products and had a comfort panel against the skin. Well, I'm awaiting the products and will be dealing with the noise again from Convatec. (Coloplast's are ok but I'm not a fan of the locking mechanism although it seems to have improved over the years.)
OT Dave, you don't find that wearing an abdominal binder causes pancaking? Especially with the compression shirt? Several nurses have suggested I wear a belt. I did buy one with an outlet for the pouch but it's pretty tight over the stoma area.
Thank you.

Re: new hollister products
For me, I don't typically have output as I irrigate every day. That said, there are times when I do have bowel movements...mostly after eating something that makes my system go into overdrive. But, those outputs are mostly thin and don't cause any pancaking. When I do have bowel movements, I typically remove the binder until the movements have come to an end. For whatever reason, I will typically have 3 movements, and then it will stop...it's weird, but that's how my system works. The binder and the shirt do "give" enough for output to flow out however. If I were to have frequent, thicker output, pancaking might become more of an issue for me. On a side note, the compression from the binder and the shirt help to keep the opening around the stoma pretty flush against my skin which again helps to reduce pancaking issues.Diane C wrote: 2020-05-08 12:02:55 OT Dave, you don't find that wearing an abdominal binder causes pancaking? The NuHope hernia belts would give you support without compromising any aspect of the stoma. I have one, but due to the fact that I don't have any hips!, the belt slides down my waist and is mostly ineffective. I did find some roll on fabric adhesive (It Stays) that helps hold the belt in place better, but for me, I prefer the binder as it doesn't require adhesive, and it doesn't slide down my waist throughout the day.
