Morning,
I got my loop ileostomy surgery done in 2012 due to pelvic floor dysfunction. Since my GI doctor wasn't sure if this would help with my PFD symptoms the surgeon left my colon in place. Well it's been 8 years now and it certainly was the answer instead of suffering with pelvic floor dysfunction. Now I've developed diversion colitis and also my last colonoscopy was extremely painful since I wasn't able to expel the gas or any of the enema solution due to the pelvic floor muscles tightening up. There is a history of colon cancer in my family therefore colonoscopies are necessary, and also I now have recurring bouts of colitis. So my question for anyone who has had a protcolectomy what should I expect. I'm sure with any surgery there are people who have had horrible experiences, but I'm hoping other people may have went through the surgery and been better off after. I appreciate anyone's insight on just what to expect. I'm very nervous on having it done even though I know it's medically necessary and my colon will never be reattached. Thank you for any insight you can provide.

I have PFD and had a colostomy in July 2020. I now have diversion colitis. Doctor says that he can give me 1” stump. Has anyone had this surgery. What kind of recovery. All input good and bad.

I had colostomy and diversion colitis, opted for a Barbie Butt in 2018.
Surgery went well, but I had surgical drains for 4.5 months, wound up needing a month of IV antibiotics, then developed a painful pocket of fluid buildup.

No more diversion colitis, but was recently diagnosed with Crohn's disease.

I believe if you've had any kind of colitis, you're susceptible throughout your intestines.

If it ain't one thing, it's another.
