I haven't seen any COVID related questions so if this isn't allowed, moderators please delete it. I was wondering: does anyone know if having ostomies places us in the 1b category for vaccine eligibility or are we not considered at risk and fall into the general population (tier 2, I think)?

I am not sure which category is which exactly but I wouldn't think that having an ostomy would make one considered at risk unless there were other medical conditions....that's my opinion, obviously - no real idea.....

I was able to get the vaccine yesterday as I am a healthcare worker. My ostomy didn't play a part in it. Also, some states are giving them out differently than recommended. For instance, Oklahoma put teachers in the first tier of vaccinations. I would think, that unless you have underlying issues, that in general, ostomies don't put us to the front of the line... Again, I don't know this for sure, and each state is doing things a little differently.

Great that you're a healthcare worker, Dave. I probably should have known that. My admiration for all healthcare workers has skyrocketed lately. And glad you rec'd the vaccine. I can't wait to get one, too. Hope it won't be TOO long. Stay safe everyone!

Unfortunately for me, I tested positive back in December and had to quarantine during Christmas. I mostly had what felt like a nasty sinus cold. I did however lose sense of taste and smell, which still haven't returned. The vaccine actually made me feel worse for about a day and a half with a low grade fever, headache, body aches, and fatigue, but after that, I felt and have felt fine. Several of my colleagues had no issues other than a sore arm....

I thought you weren't supposed to get the vaccine so soon after having Covid.....

As long as I wasn't showing any symptoms, it was recommended.

I got the first shot this past Wednesday with my follow up scheduled for Feb 1. I had no side effects what so ever. For info I am in Pensacola Fl and they are doing everyone over 65 by appointment. The vaccine center was extremely well organized.

Every state is doing this somewhat differently. I'm in Oklahoma and haven't gotten vaccinated yet but hope to get it soon. It isn't exactly true that "Oklahoma put teachers in the first tier" as Dave suggested. In Oklahoma's vaccination plan, Pre-K-12 teachers are in Phase 2 and other teachers are in Phase 3. Oklahoma and Florida both put all age 65+ in the same group, although national recommendations from CDC put age 75+ in Phase 1b and age 65-74 in Phase 1c. Oklahoma has an online scheduling portal now, but it just went live last week and kinks are still being worked out.

I heard that if you've already had covid, your reaction to the first shot is likely to be worse, just like many people have a more severe reaction to the second shot. Nobody seemed to know how folks would react to a second shot after you've had covid.

It appears that the national recommendations are being updated to allow all Americans of age 65+ to get vaccinated now. For example, see https://www.cnbc.com/2021/01/12/covid-v ... older.html and many states have already updated their vaccination plans to include age 65+ now
