Hi,
I have a colostomy and a high-level spinal cord injury. Due to paralysis, I utilize a power wheelchair for mobility, and the simple act of standing and walking is not an option to aid with motility. I do take stool softeners and a dose of MiraLAX every morning.
I recently had an issue with constipation and a colon full of poop, to put it bluntly. I was hospitalized with the following treatment: 4 bisacodyl tablets, a bottle of magnesium citrate, and a repeat for three days in a row. However, luckily for me, I was clear of any constipation after only two days. That was Friday.
It is now Sunday, and I have yet to have any results. I'm wondering how long it will be and trying to make an effort to start fresh with better eating habits of more frequent, smaller meals and more water intake.
How do you determine how long it will take to process food into poop and how do you all know that your output is sufficient?
Motility rate... From food to poop and how much???

To check motility, eat food that retains its appearance through the digestive system. Beets are often suggested, but corn or mushrooms work better for me.
Eat some, and see how long before they reappear.
For volume, I suppose you could measure or weigh everything you eat and repeat with the output. Otherwise, it's guesswork and experience.
Have you looked into irrigation? That might give you better control. There's a sub forum here, but I can't get a link to paste in properly.
