Medications
My husband has an ileostomy and was wondering how to be sure the meds are being absorbed properly, how do you know the part of the digestive tract and whether or not it should be prescribed as a liquid. Ty

Re: Medications
Welcome to Our Discussion Board & thank you for posting. Your surgeon should be able to tell you how much of the small bowel was removed during your husband's surgery. If it is difficult to reach the surgeon & you have a gastroenterologist following your husband's case, contact them. Your ostomy nurse may also be of assistance. Sometimes a Nurse practitioner in your PCP's office may be willing to research this information for you.
Your Pharmacy team should be made aware of your husband's surgery & able to help determine the absorption rate. Some pharmacists will offer to contact the prescribing doctor directly. That would be a big help.
Realizing that the current pandemic has caused disruptions in their usual routines & that our health care professionals are working thru such circumstances, it may take a little more persistence on your part to obtain answers to these important questions.
Again, thank you for joining us. Please continue to check in with our board.

Re: Medications
Just checked my email & found one from UOAA. Here is a link that you may find helpful: https://phoenixuoaa.org/ask-the-colorectal-surgeon/
It should bring up an article in The Phoenix Magazine regarding medications. The following link should take you to the official UOAA website which contains a treasure trove of information also: https://www.ostomy.org/
Hoping this will help you.

Thank you. I wasn’t very clear, he had all of his colon removed. Good advise, I will check with pharmacy and doctors. Very helpful!
