Strange items in output

Post by Lerbus »

I have had my ileostomy for going on 12 years. Recently I started having these unusual items coming in my output. Sometimes they are inflated with liquid. They are like onionskin paper but are relatively firm. I use a high output bag and they get caught in the spout and occasionally back up the output. Have you experienced this type of items? Do you have any recommendations?

Not corn. I haven’t had a kernel of corn in 14 years.

No. I have them relatively frequently and I have kept food journals but we cannot find any correlation. My diet is quite restrictive. The doctors and nutritionists have advised me to refrain from all vegetables, fruits, pasta, rice and beans.

My internist sent samples to the lab and their only response is that it is “organic”. These items are probably 1 1/2” tall and empty they are 1/2” wide. I also have many smaller ones. They are kinda like a balloon. I don’t know where to turn.i don’t know what kind of professional can help me. I have had one blockage that I think was caused by one that necessitated a 4 day hospital stay and a scope procedure. I fear it will cause a major blockage so I appreciate any input anyone can offer. Thanks

I'm going with Dave on this one. Looks like a collapsed gel. If I take anything in that form before I have food to go with it, that's what comes out. The medication is likely absorbed as 'shell' is empty.

Well, I usually agree with NEskier - but at least to me that seems sort of obvious and Lerbus would know if she/he was taking some sort of meds.....

I wish it was that easy. I don’t take any gel meds.🤗 nice try though. Keep trying!

Just trying to pin the tail on the donkey here, but I wonder if it's parasitic? Here are some links to some googling that I found....

As an aside, I experienced a similar mystery with a foul-smelling, stringing greenish-yellow slime. Frightening, as I mistook it for a purulent discharge. It took me several months to isolate the culprit--aged Swiss cheese.
