Stoma changing size

Post by hastings »

In the morning, the precut hole in the wafer -7/8"- is appropriate and the wafer hugs the stoma. Durong the day the stoma shrinks in diameter, allowing the stool to exit between the wafer and the skin, which can be a mess. This is new.
Is this normal and doothers have this problem?

Having an ileostomy with a shortened bowel for many years, I empathize with your problem. Fortunately, I was able to adapt by trying new products. Switching from a Stomahesive wafer to a moldable Durahesive has helped. I also use Esenta skin barrier wipes to cover the area surrounding the stoma before applying the wafer. Have you contacted your manufacturer? They may have suggestions, also.
