Preparing for a colonoscopy if I have an ostomy

Hello. I have had an ostomy for a year and now the doctor wants to do a colonoscopy to make sure everything is stable after surgery last year. I'm wondering: How does one prepare for a colonoscopy if they've already had colon surgery? Is it still necessary to fast the day before and drink the laxative solution the way I used to, pre-surgery? Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hey Robert,
Welcome! To answer your question, yes. The prep is exactly the same as when you had your original plumbing. The actual procedure is only different from the standpoint that they go in through your stoma. I've had multiple colonoscopies over the years with my ostomy. In fact, I don't even use the anesthesia anymore. I'm awake for the entire procedure, and can drive myself home afterwards! My surgeon and I discuss Razorback sports during the procedure! There's a little pressure, but it's never too uncomfortable. Plan on staying close to the restroom when you start your prep...you'll be there awhile!
Hope that helps.
