I have had my ostomy for 30 years and have been able to live a very good life. one remaining problem for me is emptying the bag in the toilet. sometimes spatter dirties the toilet. does anyone else have this problem? do you have a solution to share? recently I have thought of a solution that will require building a simple gadget. after I build it and try it, I will be happy to share the design.

I keep a stool in the bathroom, so my bag sits lower in the toilet. I also installed a "bidet sprayer"--a spray head on a hose that connects to the water line just before the toilet. That lets me rinse both pouch and toilet as needed.

But I can't take all that into a public bathroom, so a device might help!

Hi Mike i usually put a few squares of tp in the front part of the bowl and partly in the water and that stops the splashing, do you stand when emptying or sit, i sit normally as far back on the toilet.

I also use the low-tech method to prevent the staining and splatter on the bowl. Prior to emptying, I place a layer of toilet paper at the front of the bowl. I then empty on top of the toilet paper. This has very effectively prevented the staining that used to occur. It also serves as a cushion of sorts to prevent splatter. Of course, if I empty from a standing position (as is sometimes needed in a filthy public restroom), it will still splatter, but as long as I lower myself, that problem is almost entirely eliminated. I am interested to hear whether or not your gadget works.

My ostomy nurse brought me a plastic bedpan. I dump my bag into the bedpan, clean the end of the bag with flushable Member’s Mark tissue from Sam’s Club. Then I take the tissue and throw it into the toilet to reduce splashing as I pour in the bedpan. I rinse the bedpan in the sink and continue to dump in the toilet.

My family is taking a cruise next year. I plan to pack a new bedpan and Maker’s Mark tissues. I also hope to have two sets of Stealth Belts. One for swimming and bathing, and one for dry wear.

Yes I've noticed the underneath of the toilet seat and the lip of the bowl does get soiled a bit, but usually just wet some toilet paper, soak and wipe removes it.

But I like the idea of putting toilet paper first to block, I'll try this out from now on.
