Hi all,

Looks like the product is designed to contain a blow out type leak from ruining the bed etc. by keeping the contents up against the body.


Of course stoma output contains digestive enzymes and the more skin surface contact, the more it can eat.

So hopefully he wakes up when it occurs or the pain will eventually.

It's a one piece extra adhesive strip, instead of in moon shape parts. May be difficult to apply around belt hooks as I have two to lift up on each side. So the moon shape adhesive strips are better for handling in my case. As long as they meet at the bottom it works to contain a blowout.

My approach is to use a protective sheet first around the stoma cut to fit (a ring of well adhered no sting paste first of course) and this protects the skin in case of a blowout.

Then I have extra adhesive strips (XL) around the adhesive areas of the convex wafer (meeting at the bottom) that sits on top of the protective sheet (with a second layer of paste of course). Then I apply a four hook belt.

So this creates a sort of pocket in case the wafer section detaches and contains the blowout. The adhesive of the protective sheet is quite strong and blow outs only occur under it when I didn't use paste first. (An educational experiment).

I was hoping this product was about solving small painful leaks when they start under the paste because I've got the blowout thing nailed.

In fact I had my first one in a very long time the other day, just a little got on my shirt, my mistake trying to get shower water out of my covered belly button lifting the belt, weakened that side but it was mostly contained.

So it seems to me her husband needs to rethink his otosmy approach totally; diet, food quantity and timing, as likely his appliance and application process (poor skin adhesion, perhaps a belt) as to have just very little stoma activity during the night thus can't get caught with a major blow out. (Eat am to 3 pm only, tiny snacks afterwards).

Also discipline, train oneself to sleep only on ones back and right side.

Every person's condition is different of course and I'm glad this was shared so I can add it to my arsenal.

You've really developed quite a good system for yourself. You clearly do less laundry than I do. I'll re-read your instructions.

I DO need to wear my Nu-Hope belt much more often. It's elastic and does not attach to my appliance at all but keeps everything in place and would prevent a hernia. I don't wear it at night. I now manage to sleep on my back when exhausted.

I leak often when sleeping and it does NOT wake me up... I wish it did! I do take several meds and rarely does the leakage burn. The meds, like diphenyloxylate, reduce output.I also take a powder which helps with exocine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI). I recall early on the burning so perhaps I changed my food intake quite a bit.

I haven't heard anything more from this company yet. Still waiting.

Well mine does burn considerably and it's almost like acid it burns so much.

I think since you don't have any burn from the digestive enzymes eating your skin, that perhaps this would be a good product for you.

However you leak at night often, which obviously something else is causing that. Like not getting a good enough skin bond around the stoma etc. This ring should provide more support all around as well.

If I get a good bag on, with diet discipline, sleeping on my back and right side only, I never have trouble with a bag while sleeping. No leaks at all.

My leaks occur during the day with activity and heat, sweating, then starts as a small burning pain, increase unless I get it doused with a more alkaline substance like Tums dissolved in water, but a full on blow out leak all over the place is extremely rare for me.

I recall early on the burning so perhaps I changed my food intake quite a bit.

You know you might have something there about food.

Quantity, type and timing of course avoids a lot of night time issues.

Do you realize anything different with your diet that at first that may have reduced output enzymes as not to be so aggressive?

Are you on a alkaline diet?

I'm thinking perhaps a more alkaline diet will make the digestive enzymes of the lower illeo less effective, much like what my Tums + water solution does after the output exits the stoma.

I'm trying to find a way to neutralize these digestive enzymes as they exit the stoma and before they have a chance to burn the skin in a tiny leak.

But now I'm thinking perhaps it's my diet that may be responsible.

To answer my own question my problem is tiny leaks caused by paste and stiff convex shear.

I am changing strategy to use cut barrier strips around the stoma instead of the protective sheet because they are thinner and tapered. Then just a tiny amount of paste to protect the edges, then a marrying paste to the convex.

The mad experiments continue.
