Body change after urostomy surgery

I had urostomy surgery in December 2022 when I was 78 years old. Since that time, my stomach has grown to such a point that my 36" waist before the surgery is now 42". My wight gain is about 10 pounds since the surgery. My urologist says I just need to live with it. Is this normal? If not any suggestions about fixing the issue is greatly appreciated.
