Hi,
I'm Jayme. I have had an ileostomy since 2007, and then my small intestine ruptured in 2010 when I had a blockage. I have been receiving the Phoenix Magazine since 2007. The nearest Ostomy group is in a different city that I can't get to since I don't drive a vehicle so I really love the Phoenix Magazine for up to date information that I can gain knowledge about.
I grew up camping and hiking and exploring wilderness locations with my Mom and brother as a young child. As an adult in late 20's in 1980's I enrolled in some College courses and finally in 2013 in my 50's I worked on a BioChemistry Major for three years and after long hours of studying and having several all nighters completing assignments and preparing for weekly tests, my immune system wasn't protecting me anymore from being physically exhausted and catching frequent colds. I finally after 3 years of being totally wiped out, I realized that I was eventually going to land in the hospital due to sheer exhaustion or become sick with a major illness, so after some time debating on what I should do about my dream of becoming a Chemist and hopefully attending UCLA, I made the decision to switch to my other love of life, which is Photography, Wildlife, and Nature!
In 1989-19990 I took two black and white film photography and darkroom course and fell in love with film photography shooting natural habitats. I decided to have a darkroom in my home and purchased an enlarger and all related equipment and had fun with that for a few years and I continue to shoot film and process in the darkroom at times. In 2018, I made the switch to Photography Fine Arts and specialized in Wildlife Photography! In 2023, I became a Docent Naturalist at a nearby State Park Natural Area and have been photographing Wildlife there since I switched majors to Photography Fine Arts in 2018. Finally I graduated from that Junior College with 2 Associates Degrees in Fine Art Photography and Photography , and I transferred to a University in S.F., called Academy of Art University where I attended online.. and naturally photographing in my local area of SCV where I live. I graduated from AAU in the Fall of 2024, and have since made a Profession of Wildlife Photography and Photojournalism!
What I am curious is: Are there any Photographers out there in the Discussion Board that can relate to my story of being a Photographer and can you tell me your story, and what challenges you find that you have with your ostomy as related to Photography, like not being able to lie on your stomach to photograph animals at eye level, as well as other challenges? Thank you! I look forward to all responses!!
