Perfecting my illeostomy diet

Oh it's been a very hard and long road over the last almost two years since my surgery but I'm finally getting my illeostomy diet under control.

Before I would have so much runny output I thought I had a high output ileostomy but it wasn't, it was my diet.

So now this is my new routine.

Early AM: Donkin Donuts Egg Sausage and Cheese on a croissant or a Egg, Bacon and Cheese on a bagel and about a half of a small bottle of orange juice. Yea it makes me runny but I've got all day and I need some fat at least. The egg is good for protein I take half my daily vitamin gummies.

Noon time-ish: Some sort of frozen entree that's not fried, fatty, chunky, salty or has vegetables. Mashed potatoes and soft rice the exceptions. I can vary here, even eat a half of a Italian sausage even. The object is a small portion, about 4 oz total. I tend to take my daily iron and vitamin K here.

Dinner time: Another frozen entree similar to what I had for lunch.

About just before bedtime: Mix 3/4 scoop of whey protein powder mixed in lactose free milk in a bowl and pour some Rice Chex in. This provides my protein for the next day and has all night to digest. I usually take my other half of my daily vitamin gummies at this time as well.

Snacks through the day, if I feel I haven't eaten enough I'll eat a fruit flavored Greek yogurt, low salt ham slices or whatever is laying around. I have little cans of chilled plain V8 juice for my veggies if I feel the craving. But otherwise veggies (and corn anything) are not friendly causing me lots of expensive blowouts.

So now I'm more high protein, medium carbs and low fat as I've reduced eating meat to just a tiny insignificant portion instead of trying to make the fatty and sometimes salty food a main protein source which was causing a lot of the runny output.

Needless to say but my mood has substantially improved, I don't feel as weak and helpless as I was before, the whey protein powder really did the trick along with my vitamins, ensuring I'm getting my daily FDA recommend amounts of everything.

So anyway I hope this helps someone navigate the often tricky illeostomy diet better.

Okay I've removed the big morning sandwich for a smaller portion microwavable breakfast burrito.

Now much less runny in the mornings.

I'm also supposed to drink the protein powder along with the small meals throughout the day, not all at once which causes lots of nightly bag dumps.

I'll think I'll just mix it into my quart bottle of lactose free milk and shake it baby.

Everything is an adjustment.
