Watch out for Magnesium supplements with an ileostomy

I was taking one of the two daily recommended chewables and having no issues so today I decided to take two and boy it got me flowing quite a bit.
Definitely a laxative but I was suffering from low Magnesium so it's back to one chewable a day, perhaps two spaced out over 24 hours.
I guess I'm going to hit up my banana orange juice smoothie, that should slow things down a bit.
Diet is so important with an ileostomy, I used to just blow it off and eat whatever but one can't always just do that without suffering the consequences.

Banana strawberry smoothie didn't have any effect against the magnesium vitamin "laxative". I just had to wait it out unfortunately.
ChatGPT was right.

I take a daily Magnesium glycinate capsule and don't have any issues with it...
Shamrock, don't you have a health provider you can contact rather than some online chat bot or whatever Chatgpt is....

Mara, I also use Magnesium glycinate but only "as needed" rather than every day. In general, magnesium compounds speed up the digestive process and normally are used in the event of constipation (Think "Milk of Magnesia") but Magnesium glycinate is more gentle. And in general, Calcium compounds slow down the digestive process and may be used in the event of diarrhea but an over-the-counter drug (Loperamide) is safer and more effective when used according to the label. But it is always safer to consult your doctor.

How did you know that you were suffering from a low level of magnesium? Did you have a blood test that showed this?

Above, I think, is a good summary of why I use magnesium glycinate and my dose in 120 mg....

I was just going by the FDA daily recommended amount.
I'm taking a daily gummie now that has about 30% FDA and has potassium also. No issues.
I tried a multivitamin multimineral like Centrum Silver and it messed with my bag something awful so now I'm piece mealling instead as to eliminate issues.
