Ostomy reversal
Hi..I am new to this forum. I have a colostomy due to a perforated diverticulitis. I had surgery in July of this year. I am scheduled for a reversal in January. My surgeon has said it will probably be a 2 step process. Meaning he will reattach colon and then create an ileostomy until the colon heals and then another reversal for the ileostomy a couple of months later. I have read so many recovery stories and more not pleasant than positive. They took 6 in of my sigmoid colon. It was a Hartmann procedure. I am a very active Nana and don't let the grass grow under my feet. After my 1st surgery I was up and walking 2 miles in 3 weeks. From what I am reading the recovery process sounds very scary as far as numerous bowel movements and maybe never being able to control the bowel movements. I have adjusted very well to my colostomy. I am out and about daily and even traveled via airplane and long road trips. But I am very apprehensive with the next steps. Do I keep what I have or risk the reversal. Any advice would be appreciated.
