Gave my illeostomy "The Whack" today

I was testing various fruit juices for different flavors of my watered down ORS I drink from all day to stay perfectly hydrated.

One had stevia leaf in it so it even loosened even pasta. Then the next batch was entirely too fruity or sugary and that triggered another bout of diarrhea. Then unfortunately I also drank a liquid yogurt drink with zero sugar and that had natural laxatives in it.

So I was pretty screwed up far as my perfect hydration goes so I went ahead and decided to whack my illeostomy good to dry me out.

No fluids what so ever

Ate a large piece of sourdough bread

Then one packet of cream of wheat prepared with just a bit of water so it was nice and thick.

Then downed about 20 or so pieces of plain cooked rigatoni, no sauce or anything.

Froze up that watery output good it did. 😂

Yes I could have used bananas but they often absorb too much and pancake me really bad so I usually avoid them unless in a smoothie or yogurt.

I've been slaving at this thing for almost 3 years now and still quite haven't gotten things down but I learn each time I experiment.

It would be nice if there was just a simple set of meals, drinks etc. that works for everyone and if you have an illeostomy then this is what you stick to. But unfortunately that's not always the case.

We all enjoy some variety of taste in our foods but our bodies don't always cooperate.

For a few days there I was perfectly balanced hardly going to the bathroom at all even, maybe just a few times instead of dozens a time a day. So it's possible and almost within reach.😊

So your likely wondering why those three items and not marshmallows, fiber or apple sauce.

These items are already part of my daily diet and they are nutritious, have energy (especially the pasta) and most important, they absorb bile salts the best. Less bile salts, less stoma irritation and longer bag wear days.

The slightly watery cream of wheat provides just enough water to get things down.

The sourdough bread slice adds just a little gas to the mix to loosen things up a bit.

I repeat this meal cycle again after a few hours when the first dump (normal) occurs. 😊

I went out to the supermarket first thing when they opened and bought myself the same natural white grape and cranberry juice I made my original watered down ORS with and quickly got my sensitive system back under control.

Experimentation really sucks sometimes. 🫪
