I usually avoid the snack isles (we have two of them) at our local supermarket on account they are usually bad and not very nutritious..but I ventured into see if something could work.
Came across these fig newton 2 oz packs which has 200 calories, 5% DV of fat (ideal between 5-10% for me), 8% DV of salt (I need that) with 7% DV of fiber, 6% DV of iron and 2g of protein.
They work rather well paired up with something I'm eating (like a lot of protein) to soak up extra fluids the body puts into the intestines to digest proteins. The result is less watery output.
Plus they are packed with 200 calories in just two small cookies.
I used to avoid a lot of "desert" type foods on account they would cause issues but a few things (like pumpkin pie and now fig newtons) seem to be working out well for me lately, could it be they contain fiber and my previous diet was avoiding fiber?
Some fiber is necessary then? That's what it seems. Slows down the system quite nicely. Fiber and starches both.
Is anyone using Fig Newtons to control their illeostomy output?
