Reminder About the Rules for Posting

Post by Bob Webtech »

This message board is provided by, maintained and managed by the United Ostomy Associations of America, Inc. It is intended for discussion relevant to UOAA and intestinal or urinary diversionary surgery. Messages should be informative, educational, supportive and respectful.

UOAA reserves the right to remove messages, block users after a warning and update policy without notice. The following posts and/or replies are subject to removal and the responsible user(s) being blocked from the discussion board: off-topic; inflammatory; derogatory; controversial; religious; political; profanity; posting another user's e-mail address (without that person's permission); questions/debate about board policy/management; personal attacks/harassment; boycott campaigns. For more details, see our Complete Terms and Conditions.

Copyrighted material must not be included in postings, but you may provide a link to the original source. In fact, whether or not it's copyrighted, if an article is already present on the web, you should post only a link instead of copying its full text, to avoid needlessly using up disk space on our server.

Commercial posting is strictly prohibited.
Posting of graphics (images) is discouraged.
Announcements about support group chat rooms, special events and online newsletters are permitted only in the Support Group Announcements forum.

Disclaimer: UOAA, its affiliated support groups and the operators of this board are not responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any form of damages whatsoever resulting from the use (or misuse) of information contained in or implied by any postings on this site. This board should not be relied on as a source of medical advice. What works for one individual may not work for anyone else. Always check with your medical care team for specific medical questions.

Including E-mail Addresses is discouraged: There are two problems when posters include an e-mail address in the body of a posting. First, if the address belongs to someone other than yourself (for example, if you're trying to be helpful by providing a doctor's or nurse's e-mail address), there's a privacy issue: Do you have that person's permission, or are you sure they want their e-mail address made public this way? In fact, according to our Terms and Conditions, posting someone's e-mail address without their permission can be considered grounds for banning you from our discussion board! The other problem is that e-mail addresses entered normally (with @ sign) in the body of a posting are vulnerable to harvesting by the automated software with which spammers are always scanning the web. Therefore, as suggested in my earlier message about use of e-mail addresses, any such address in the body of a message should be written in a modified form, such as "username AT example DOT com" so it won't be recognized as an e-mail address by the spammers' software. This is especially important if you're providing someone else's e-mail address (which shouldn't be done at all unless you have that person's permission, as stated above).
