linking to other postings

When posting a message, how does one add a link to a posting from a different topic? For example, if I were replying to a question but I remember that someone else provided a similar answer to a previous post, how could I include a link to that posting?
I'm assuming that the link would look something like this:
http://www.uoaa.org/forum/posting.php?mode=newtopic&f=5

Robin,
It's something like that, but not quite. The link you posted would be for posting a new topic in this (Help Using the Discussion Board) forum--and if the person who clicks it isn't currently logged in, they get a login screen. To create a link to a previous discussion topic, simply copy the URL that you see in your browser's Address bar when you view that topic. For example, http://www.uoaa.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=158 points to the thread (in this Help forum) about creating an avatar.

Ah yes, I see.
So, to link to your actual reply I put in:
http://www.uoaa.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2381#2381
but my original posting is:
http://www.uoaa.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2367#2367
which is a little different from:
