Hi Renee,
I'm glad I saw your post! I have had a K pouch for almost 27 years, done by none other than Dr. Fazio!
I LOVE it.
I'm sure that you've heard all about the "slipped valves" that seems to have everyone so frightened of going to a Kpouch. Well, I'm here to tell you that I don't think that it's really that common. They have made so many advances on how the valve is done over the years. Not to say that it doesn't EVER happen, but there are alot of Kpouchers out here that have NO problems.
With that being said-----
I have to confess that I have a slipped valve. OK, don't freak out!

I live with it, no biggy to me. If I'm totally honest with myself (and you), I could really be the "poster child" for what NOT to do with a K pouch

I was 18 when I had mine done in 1980, and I knew everything!! Alot of times Dr. Fazio would tell me the do's and don'ts and I heard, BLAH,BLAH,BLAH. I'm young and you can't tell me anything. Well, now I can hear!!!!
I truly believe that my valve has slipped because of my own fault. I love food!!! I love to cook! Therefore I MUST eat!!! I had no trouble for 23-24 years, then I managed to go from a "nornal" weight to OMGosh I'm gonna explode

The one thing I really regret.
My valve can be repaired, no problem, it's just that it can't be done at my current weight. I have alot of weight to lose, and it's very slow going, but I will get there. I would never give up my K pouch without a fight.
You have made a good choice in Dr. Fazio. He's the BEST. In my experience, he's always up front with you. If he tells you something, it's the whole truth, no "sugar coating" it either. Don't let that alarm you, he is also one of the kindest and most gentle men that I've known.
If you would like to know anything else, from a personal stand point, just ask me. Best of luck to you. Hope all goes well.
