Stomach pain
Does anyone who has had their colon removed and have either a jpouch or straight pull thru experience stomach pain after eating? Whenever I eat and sometimes even drink anything, I experience severe abdominal cramping and my stomach rumbles very loudly. I've never met or even heard of anyone else who experiences this but I thought it'd be worth a try.
what kind of stomach pain are you talking about? is the pain in the stomach (left side) or is it the cramping in the intestine closer to where the connection to the anus is?
Usually shortly after I eat and quite often throughout the day I get bad cramping in the pouch (pressure on the anus) and my tummy always seems to be somewhat loud and gurgly, especially after eating.

sorry it took me so long to reply, i didnt think anyone replied to my post ha.
the pain is all over, cramping pain esp when my stomach will gurgle. and the gurgling is loud, the gurgling has been so loud that it would literally scare professors during their lecture. my doctor doesnt understand why i have the pain or gurgling when I eat because it shouldnt be happening, but its been going on for so many years now that if there isnt any gurgling she knows something is seriously wrong. according to her, even though I look like a duck, sound like a duck, and act like a duck....i'm really a zebra.

Planning Around Your J-Pouch
I've had my j-pouch for over 7 years. I've encountered the pain you mention. I find the best thing is preplanning! My analysis is that the intake (what "normal people" call eating) has no place to go. We've got limited storage capacity so when something goes in, the last round wants to go out - usually within the half hour. If I can't get to a place soon enough, I have wicked pain. If I have to wait even longer, then the trauma takes a couple of days to recover (i.e. trapped in traffic jam). You do have to give up your modesty and that's especially hard at work. The only other option I've found is to skip the meal until logistics are in place (home, sweet, home).
By the way, I've noticed that if I watch my carbs the PSI associated with the inability to separate the gas and solids is a lot less and the pain isn't as bad either. If anyone else has tips on minimizing the "blast", please pass them on - that's the most embarrassing for me because I work with a lot of men at construction sites where the job site trailers aren't exactly sound suppressed.

I like to call it my "compromised digestive system"...
