hi....i have had a koch pouch for 22 years....it has not been functioning correctly for many years....having difficulty emptying completely and have been leaking....i will schedule surgery with dr. launer in la jolla, ca...scripps memorial hospital...i was wondering if anyone has had a revision done...what does it entail....do they cut through the adominal wall and then go through the pouch to construct a new nipple valve? i believe i will have a leg bag for 3 weeks....just hoping for some info on the recovery stage and what to expect....thanks for any help...dmarie

I was told that a revision would need the abdominal incision. With this incision you will need to be careful during recovery.
Yes, you will be hooked up 24/7 for awhile.
Not much else I can offer as far as info.
Have you spoken to Dr. Launer yet? I have heard great things about him.

dmarie,
My guess is that it will be almost like having surgery again, although the pouch is already constructed. You will be having all that healing from the inside out again.
