I have a question!

I had an illeo conduit with and external bag for Interstital Cystitis back in 2000. I had the urge to pee all of the time and very bad for about the first year. As time went on, it got better and totally went away after about 3 years. In 2005 I decided to have the internal pouch done. The urge to pee came back but left again after about 4 - 8 weeks. The end of June this year, I had to go in for double hernia surgery. The doctor that did my internal pouch did the hernia surgery and cut down the same exact scar. The feeling of having to pee came back about 2 weeks post op. I am still waiting for it to go away. Since it came and went the other times I would think and have been told by a couple of doctors that it will go, it will just take time. I was wondering if anyone else has had this experience. It is irritating to say the least!
Thank You!

Hmmmm, I find it very interesting that you and Waterlover (Aileen) are having the same type of issue, I wonder if you two could share with each other any info about what is happening when you have it, does it seem to be related to when you are full, recently peed, drank a lot of water, not had much water etc. That would be a good conversation to have...
I do occasionally get that sensation with no reason I can nail. I usually go sit on the commode until it passes. I would be interested to hear if Squid has had these issues, she is our resident expert around here and has the most experience. Have you talked to your urologist?

Hi Julie!
You are just a year or so since your surgery and Aileen's has been recent as I recall. It is not uncommon for people to have that sensation after surgery. Mine originally lasted about 3 years until it was TOTALLY gone. When it came back after I had my internal pouch done, it TOTALLY went away again. After this double hernia surgery, it is just taking longer. I have no urethra but it seems sensitive as it did the last time. This is what is so strange. It never should have happened after the last two surgeries. My doctors say that because of my history of it coming after surgeries and then going, that they are confident that I will be fine! It is very depressing though and I want it to go very soon. How often do you get the sensation and how long does it last? Do you get the sensation in your urethra area also or is it a full bladder feeling?
My sensations are just like a roller coaster. Very up and down. It happens all in one day. Over time though, it gets better until it is totally gone. I can say that when mine went the other 2 times, I never felt like I had to go! I never would have thought that after hernia surgery, it would come back. I should have told the doctor not to cut down the same scar. He could have fixed them another way. Also, I wish I would have had an epidural but didn't because it was only hernia surgery. I think that being numb from the waist down, would have made it so that these sensations would go away faster. Who knows, it is all speculation at this point and useless to try to go back! Did the surgery take away your pain? How are you doing now!
