You need to keep detailed records about your jobs, why you lost them, etc. If you see a therapist they can be helpful in writing a letter as can your doctors. Have you ever been to voc rehab? They can help you with finding work that you can do or help you when it comes to applying again. It helps to write down what a typical day is like for you- how your health issues impact you everyday. I know they do have lawyers that specialize in helping people get disability. Judith

Our experience was similiar to yours. We later learned 95% of first submissions are rejected, 70% of second submissions. We wereadvised by a court clerk to hire and attorney specializing in disability ($350) claims. After hiring the attorney, meeting with her once we went to court, approval was granted by a judge immediately, total time in court, less than 30 minutes.
Good Luck

I never did, in fact I got it first try, but I know some people do as well as having to undergo a physical by one of their doctors. I hope this time it goes smoothly for you.

The hurdles to establishing disability are well-known to those in the organization "Advocacy for Patients with Chronic Illness" (at
www.advocacyforpatients.org ). UOAA has an arrangement with their founder, Jennifer Jaff, to work with people that UOAA refers to her.
rikki, email me by clicking the button below and let's talk about how we and Jennifer can help you.

I live in canada and with any kind of ostomy you are classed as disabled....and I get a $7000 a year tax credit for that....the governments don't always tell you what you are entitled to so keep digging there....fight them if you can...good luck...

Congratulations! And thanks for keeping us posted. It is encouraging for others to hear about winners. Do you think there was any specific thing that helped your case? Or was it the simple fact of having a lawyer along with you?

i don't think it was anything i did but i would advise to anyone applying for disability to get a lawyer. the only thing my lawyer did was gather my medical records and get them to the judge. however it is a good ole boy network in Louisiana and i feel sure it helped to have a lawyer the judge knew representing me. i felt like he had already made up his mind on my case before i got there because he asked me very few questions and the hearing only lasted about 15 minutes and he granted my disability. it will still be 30 days to get it in writing and then another 60 days to start to get money. i've been out of work for two years and my wife and i feel very blessed to be getting this assistance. all my thanks to Christ our Lord.
