Hi, I have an ileal conduit, but on Tuesday 3/11, I had surgery to place a catheterizable stoma in order to irrigate my bladder. Because my bladder is useless, it holds on to all this mucous which causes spasms - ouch! I'm still in the hospital and the catheter that was put in to keep the stoma open should be in place another 10 days. My question is, what do you cover a continent stoma with? The ET nurse said a bandaid. What do people use?

I use the AMPatch made by Austin Medical. They come in different sizes, shapes, absorbancies and with different type adhesives. If you call them at 1-800-223-9319 they will send you some free samples.

I have an internal urinary pouch with a stoma. I keep mine covered with 2x2 gauze squares and tape or else I use the AMPatch. The Patches are wonderful, but they are pricey so I dont use them all the time. If you call up Austin Medical and talk to them, tell them what size your stoma is, what type you have etc, they will send you free samples. I really advise you call them, because they will know best what will work for you. Judith

Hi, In the day use a overnight ultra thin maxi pad cut in half and tape with paper. Has worked for 28 years with my koch pouch. No wetness!

At night though, I use 4 x 4 12 gauze pads folded in half since I sleep on my side and the mucous is active. Janice
