Hi all-
I have a urostomy so I usually post on the other boards, but I had a Boari catheterizable stoma placed (for irrigation only) one month ago.
The catheter that was put in in the OR came out on its own 2 weeks and 3 days post op. I've been trying to get the surgeon's office to call me to schedule a follow up. I've received no instructions to care for the Boari, nor has it been used. The other night I realized a suture is still in there. I've left messages saying that I fear the new stoma has closed, which means the op was for nothing, but apparently that's okay?!

Okay I am not familiar with this type of catheter, BUT I really think you need to call the hospital where it was done and the floor that you stayed on. Hopefully one of the nurses on the floor can help you. Tell them what has been going on, that the surgeon has not returned your calls. You can also try calling your regular doctor for guidence, they may be able to get better results in contacting the surgeon. Another option is to go the ER where you had it done and someone can see you there. I think the lack of after care you have not gotten is terrible! After you get this problem resolved, you should write a letter of complaint to the head of the hospital where it was done as well as the head of the dept of urology and surgery. This is a clear case of neglect. Let me know what happens. Judith

Essentially, the Boari stoma is right over the bladder. I can use a regular catheter for saline flushes instead of irrigating through my urethra.
