Hi! New ileo, questions about diet

Hi all,
Lovely to be here with all you fine folks. Me? Long time ostomate, originally a colostomy for 11 years, now ileostomy. And I have questions!!! Whewwww caring for myself now with the ileo is way more challenging than I had originally thought! What do you all do to help slow transit time? I have 7ft of small bowel left (yikes!) and I’m having trouble with some meds just rushing right out.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Phoenix924

Hi Phoenix I,ve had my ileo. for 34yrs. and a resection done on it last year and I have a problem with transit time as the new ileo. works too good so what I do is snack on bananas, applesauce, and peanut butter oncrackers in between meals and that thickens and slows down transit time.

P, Make sure you talk to your prescribing doctor(s) and ensure they know about the medication problem. Some meds are designed to dissolve in the colon and just won't work for us. Some can be ground up or dissolved but some definitely shouldn't be either and finally some meds can even be prescribed in liquid form. I've had to have this discussion with several MD's. Don't accept defeat. Take care, it's the only body you'll ever have. Larry

Thanks very much for the advice, it means a lot.
My prescriber is working with me on figuring things out. I’m taking immediate release vs the extended to make up for the lack of colon. I’m taking extra steps to slow transit so hoping that’ll work. Delicate balance between keeping output moving vs. major pancaking from too much fiber!
