Hello all. I am not sure where to post, so thought I would try here. I am 34 years old and had Hirschprungs Disease as a baby. I have an older brother who is 11 years older who also had it. I had multiple surgeries as a baby/small child and have an unusual problem. I have been told my whole life that after they were done with all of my surgeries, I was still having constipation problems so the brilliant doctors thought to cut my sphincter muscle to allow the stool to come out easier. Once they did this, I got a huge cyst on my butt that required surgery to remove. My whole life I have had problems holding it when I have to go to the bathroom. I have accidents all the time, mostly at night. I didn't really have much of a social life as a child as I was always afraid to spend the night at friends houses for fear of having an accident and needing to clean it up at someone elses house.
Even better (sarcasm hehe) I have 2 sons, and my youngest, born 3-15-2005 was born with Hirschprungs. He has had 4 surgeries and had a FANTASTIC surgeon named Dr. Frieda Hulka who is still taking fantastic care of him. His last surgery was in January, and he still has bad diaper rash, gets better, almost heals, then gets worse again. He has very loose stool, just like me.
In case I didn't mention it, I have very loose stool, mostly diarrhea, never like "normal" folks. Recently, my sons surgeon told me that one of her colleagues does artificial sphincters and that I should talk to my General practitioner, get a referral and talk to her associate to see if he can help me. WOW!!
Anyone have any thoughts? Anyone else my age or close who has had similiar problems?
One more thing, anyone know how I can get medical records from when I was a baby/child so that I can confirm all of the things that were done to me then?
Looking forward to some replys, thanks all.
Kathie

You may want an opinion from a Certified Colorectal Surgeon, you can find one near you on one of the sites below:

You might find a better solution with an ostomy.
