Hello,
First time poster, registrant. First a brief history. Total colectomy and ileostomy in place since 2016. This year in March they found a parastomal hernia had developed and did emergency surgery. Some complications occured post surgery with infection but i was fine from mid April until July.
On Sunday July 14th I became ill while driving home from a road trip. Nausea and then vomiting all night long. Monday I recovered and fellt well enough to eat and drink again by noon. And then everything was great until Thursday. Once again around 6 pm the same symptoms and on through the night. Then again on Saturday evening, then this past Tuesday. Then Friday (last night). My ostomy bag continues to have some output, more so if I get sleep and stop throwing up, but clearly I'm throwing up because something is shutting off my stomach and sending most of it back up. At first I thought it was food poisoning and stopped eating anything from the fridge that I had eaten on my nauseous days. But then it happened again last night with no questionable foods eaten. I have never been tested for any food allergies or intolerances.
Can anyone here offer advice? And yes I know I need to see a doctor. Im being stubborn for a few more days because I started a new job this month and insurance kicks in on August 1. But I will go if I have to. I did get a blood test which showed normal glucose etc. But the white cells were at 15 and they said they normally should be in the 5 to 10 range.
Thank you for your time, please help.
Sean

Re: Nausea Vomiting Every Third Day
I had the same symptoms Went to ER, scans showed an SBO ( small bowel obstruction), Mine was due to a failure of synthetic mesh they used to repair a peristomal hernia. Had surgery to remove the mesh and resite the stoma.
Not saying this is what you are experiencing but it is what happened to me. You should see a Doctor.

Luckily they didnt use a mesh on me. I hear what youre saying, but if I had an obstruction why do I still have normal bag output?
Re: Nausea Vomiting Every Third Day
Could it be a gall bladder issue? Is that a common problem for those with ileostomies?
Re: Nausea Vomiting Every Third Day
Could be a partial obstruction; some stuff is getting through.
Feel your belly, looking for a hard area. That could indicate a blockage, with stool packed in behind it.
Blockages can be caused by bulky or sticky foods (mushrooms, dried fruit, licorice), by scar tissue/adhesions stiffening or throttling the intestine, by hernias, or other causes. Some clear up without intervention; if yours persists, you may need medical help finding the cause.
Maybe switch to a liquid diet that would pass more easily. Google "full liquid diet" for suggestions.
My doctor told me to use Miralax and plenty of water for blockages.
Good luck, I hope you feel better soon.

Thanks for the advice. Yeah my health insurance starts today so I'm good to go if the problem persists. I started taking digestive enzymes with every meal and it seems to be helping so far. No illness since last Friday.
