Why do I feel like I need to poop? Technically a Jujenostomy
I lost 90% of my intestines four years ago due to a blood clot in the Mesentery vein. I am lucky to be alive, but lately have had an almost constant feeling like I need to go poop. The docs warned me that I might from time to time have a sloughing of cells from the anus but I've had no type discharge or clots from my bootie... it's driving me nuts...

Hi,
I have a colostomy and also have a rectal stump as it’s called. The remaining rectum/anus, etc gets something called disuse or diversion proctitis. It’s an inflammation caused by a lack of short and medium chain fatty acids that are in poop and nourish the intestine. There are enemas that you can get that provide the necessary nutrients. They work for some but didn’t for me. Interestingly, I lost all but 5.5 feet of my small intestine in 2018 and my disuse proctitis is actually better. If you are interested and on FB there is a pretty good short bowel syndrome (SBS) group. Not too many of us ostomates though. Personally I can’t imagine managing SBS without an ostomy.
Good luck,
Linda

I also have a rectal stump which I bathe with warm water every morning using a "douche" which fits over the toilet. If I don't bathe, I get very itchy and uncomfortable.
