Soreness at stoma

Post by hastings »

I havecently noticed a new, minor soreness at the stoma, similar to a tape irritation. Curious if anyone else has noticed anything similar. New , after 11 years.

I've found that soreness can be from a number of factors i.e., leakage beneath wafer, allergies, etc. Many of these causes have been addressed by UOAA on their website. Here is a helpful link: https://www.ostomy.org/search_gcse/
Ordinarily, I suggest people see their WOCN, but realizing the disruptions in routine health care the pandemic has produced, reliable info from a source like UOAA may give you some possibilities before you can reach your own providers. A call-in to your ostomy nurse to let them know you are experiencing a problem is also a good idea.

Thanks for the advice! Nothing crucial, just something new. As I age, I am probably more aware.

It's good to be aware of any changes just in case. When dealing with a potential skin irritation, I have removed the wafer a day or two sooner than regularly scheduled. And reported to a health professional if there was no improvement.
