Farrah Fawcett had a colostomy bag
The New York Post reports that Farrah Fawcett had a colostomy in spite of Ryan O'Neal's public denials. The claim has not been denied by O'Neal's representatives or Fawcett's friends. Instead, they are staying silent on the matter.
From the article:
"O’Neal even lied about her having a colostomy bag, in part to preserve his own image as the lover of the 1980s golden girl whose 1976 swimsuit poster is one of the most iconic of all time, according to Craig Nevius, Farrah’s friend and the producer of the 2005 reality TV show, “Chasing Farrah.” and the 2009 documentary about her fight with cancer, “Farrah’s Story.”
“He denied millions of people who suffer with the stigma of having a colostomy bag from knowing that Farrah had one too,” Nevius told The Post. “His ego couldn’t take anyone knowing. He wanted her poster girl perfection to remain intact.
O’Neal also fought Nevius over the “Farrah’s Story” film, ultimately wresting control of it from him and re-cutting much of the footage to ensure he had a prominent role in it.”

Re: Farrah Fawcett had a colostomy bag
You're welcome. Still trying to get the story picked up, reported wider. Farrah thought it was important. And so do I.
Re: Farrah Fawcett had a colostomy bag
This is untrue. Farrah opted not to have ANY surgery, related to her cancer. As a result of not removing anus and rectum, the cancer metastasized to her liver. It is also why the cancer came back after a fee months. None of these things would have occurred if she had the surgery. Her autopsy stated states she was anatomically intact. If you watch her cancer documentary, she shows her entire abdomen several times, for treatments. There is no colostomy and this was a couple weeks before death. Just goes to show the prospect of a colectomy is so scary and has such stigma, that she was willing to go through a second round of chemo and radiation and was told she likely would not make it without surgically removing the cancer.

Re: Farrah Fawcett had a colostomy bag
RenReeves, I understand that you are going by what you have read and/or "seen" in terms of Farrah Fawcett's choices. I was her close friend and the executive producer/director of her cancer documentary which was re-edited/changed a month before it aired. That's when Ryan O'Neal wrongfully took it over for his own purposes. So you did not actually see what you thought you saw. The new narrative said (or at least implied) that Farrah had refused the colostomy that was initially recommended by her doctors in the United States and sought alternative treatment in Germany in order to
to avoid it. But the truth is that once her U.S. doctors discovered that the cancer had already spread to her liver, the option of a colostomy ceased to be an option -- at least as far as they were concerned. At that point, she was not offered any other treatment with even a remote possibility of saving her life. And that’s the real reason that Farrah went to Germany for alternative treatment which included undergoing a colostomy. In fact, she bravely filmed the entire (and emotional) process for inclusion in her video diary (the documentary). So, the only vanity deserving of criticism belongs to Ryan O'Neal who worried that the “audience” wouldn’t see his “leading lady” as romantic or sexy if they knew that she was wearing a colostomy bag. And he wanted Farrah's cancer documentary to be a love story like his most famous movie. But you are right about the stigma. That's what Farrah wanted to change. And what Ryan perpetuated. In fact, the stigma of a colostomy remains so great that the news and medical media have not been interested in reporting this story.

I'd still have her poster on the wall!
Re: Farrah Fawcett had a colostomy bag
I caught cancer just before she passed. And as far as I knew, no bag.

Yes I am very morbid
And darn cynical too

She had a bag. I was her friend and documentarian, I saw it. Ryan O'Neal mislead the world when he wrongfully took over our documentary.

Re: Farrah Fawcett had a colostomy bag
It really doesn't matter now.
Does it?
I mean this shows the stigma surrounding having one.
I have one. And I could care less what people think about it.
It saved my life and gave me a life.
Does it really matter?
No.
Of course she was an icon.
But I would be proud of her if she announced it to all.
If it saves your life I don't see the stigma.
C'mon people.
It doesn't matter.
And O'Neal should have been shamed of himself.
Doesn't matter now. None of it does.
I believe when you say she had one.
But it still doesn't matter.
What we try to do here is show it's nothing to be ashamed of.
We go through enough.

After reading this I googled her - she passed away in 2009....almost 15 years ago - is it politically incorrect to say who cares.....

Re: Farrah Fawcett had a colostomy bag
I can understand Craig thinking it matters , because she wanted it to be known ,and her knew her so it is a big deal to him .It's a shame O'Neal was the over bearing pig that he was .She left him nothing in her will - which shows what she thought of him .
I'd say it matters to me too because I have waited a longtime for a really big name to share their ostomy experience and she wanted to .Matthew Perry made it sound disgusting .If Farrah's voice hadn't been hushed she wouldn't have been remembered as someone who was so vain she wouldn't have the operation to save her life .She has been accused of that a lot if you google it .

Thanks for your reply, lolapergola - I guess I'm just not very interested in anything about so-called celebrities...
