cecostomy...chait vs mic-key????

Our surgeon might give us the option to choose which button Tyler will get for his cecostomy. So those of you who have either the chait trap door or a mic-key button I would like to know the pro and con for each in your opinion. Also if you have expereince with both I'd like to hear that as well.

Janel, I don't know if you've already made a decision but My son has had both. He started with the Mic-key when he was 6 and it was fine. We tried to switch to the chait this summer (he's 10) and we had major problems with trying to get the button open. We never actually got it open and went back to the Mic-key within a month. The chait is definitely flatter than the Mic-Key, but the Mic-key is very easy to open from the moment you get it. Whereas with the chait, my understanding from other parents that it is extremely difficult to open for the first month or so.

Hey Veronica we met this summer at the PTN conference. I sat with you guys alot...i was the one who came alone..haha..

Well I was debating and then I was still not sure which one but was seriously considering the chait. But today our surgeon said we should give the mic a try. He said for my son's abdominal wall he didnt think the chait would be a good match right now. Now I guess we are going with the Mic on 12/23.

we ended up getting a Mic-key and it is working out well besides the continual build up of scar tissue daily. But I guess that is what we would have to deal with with either devise right.

So things are going good and I am happy about that!
