Coloplast Mio click

Post by agichk »

I have had both the clear and beige bags for the 2 piece Mio click for about 3 weeks now.
I got the beige bags for my 1st order from edgepark for the month and won't do it again

I am noting that though I hate the clear or transparent bags for Mio, the filter sure as heck works compared to the beige bags, which balloon out and make hiding a problem in my opinion. I am self conscious enough before this surgery but even worse now. buldging bag is not easy to hide in the champion women's pants from target with elastic waist that is not too tight and has drawstring even wearing T shirts not tucked in.

This is all new to me as only 8 weeks today with ileostomy and 1 week with wound vac right next to the ostomy site. Makes changing the bag all the more fun even if the wide part of barrier is up and down, not side to side.

I have tried the cottonball in the bag near filter to prevent the pancaking, put applicator stuff around the top of the bag and let go to the bottom before putting on and even covered up the filter to only have small area uncovered per coloplast without luck as filter works great in clear bags. I have found baby oil works great to get back to empty compared to the lubricating products so far but either filter works too well in clear bags or almost not at all in beige.

Has anyone else found this problem with the non clear bags?

Thank you in advance for the help this forum offers.

The use of a filter with an ileostomy does not have a consensus vote of benefit. A typical filter can easily become saturated by liquid ileostomy output which renders it useless.

Coloplast has recently offered a new filter design. The filter perched higher on the top boarder of the pouch. It has a circular “pre-filter” that is meant to limit and contain liquid output, keeping liquid output from encroaching on the filter that sits within the ring of the pre-filter.

For me, the new filter design works and is patent as long as I am upright during the day (minimizing output that may reach the upper pouch). The new filter design does not always last through a night’s sleep (lying allows output to flow upwards toward the filter).

There are two generations of Coloplast Mio. Both generations are available . . . the early design product models (nude/tan in color) and the later, more current designs (gray/granite in color). It is the newest generation Mio that has been fitted with the revised filter-within-a-filter design (gray/granite colored pouch). You might check to see that you have the newest Mio pouch design and revised filter design by checking the color of your pouch.

For the most part, I prefer a pouch without a filter. Liquid ileostomy output compromises most filter designs.

As you are using a two-piece pouching system, you can “burp” the pouch by opening a small segment of the interlocking system. Be cautious. Make a small opening at the uppermost top of the pouch to release retained air. Be prepared with a sheet of paper towel at the ready in case the built-up pressure shoots fecal material like a rocket launch.

Very well said, Karen! Wish a manufacturer could devise a way to keep liquid output from the filter area by isolating it with a gas permeable barrier within the pouch. Probably costly & not to be created in our lifetime.

Thank you very much. the bags that edgepark are the beige or tan in color.

I will call coloplast 1st tomorrow though as I do recall my samples from them were all grey on the one side and the filters worked too good but the skin was not being affected. Than I will call edgepark to get their story than give them what cololplast has told me. It would be nice if cololplast would tell ostomy patients of this change as I wouldn't have known without your help.

i did send an email to my personalized contact person at coloplast cares as edgepark told me they didn't have the bags with my 1st order one day & he has never replied, which really is nerving as the local ostomy nurse said he is good about replying but nothing 3 weeks later. Edgepark though the next day told me there wasn't an issue with the bags and didn't know why I was told that. So not sure whom to take the side of.

the dates on the 2 boxes of opaque bags show the 1st date as 3/13/19 and 2nd date in 2022 from edgepark. I have noted the filters are not working as ballooning up. I did try the one piece milo clear bag and it was very difficult to put on correctly as it is double bag almost, so I ruled them out for now at least.

so I wonder if they are getting people hooked on samples like me as the filters worked much better but not available for everyone yet as the supplies must be exhausted? (my husband an injectable med that must be mixed and now 2 years later after being told it is prefilled and don't have to mix, we are still getting the ones that must).

I have tried today to put baby oil all around the circle of foam just like company said to do but still have stool on it even when sitting or standing for hours w/o laying down. baby oil was told to me by someone with an ostomy 33 years as cheap lubricant. I have not found the hollister drops for the bag (blue color) actually really do any deodorizing nor does their lubricant really help for more than 1 time to empty bag compared to the baby oil. I was told hollister is the best but maybe I will look at other companies in the book before this order is shipped.

I have ordered samples from coloplast on 4/14/19 of a closed bag as I was told to do like if I wanted to swim and says they are coming but not at my home yet. I will go on there tonight to ask for samples without the filter before I make a decision for myself. I know others with ileostomy have said they go without filter and prefer this, not one of the 3 companies has sent any samples of unfiltered bags.

I do have issues with having to empty the bag mutliple times at night as full and know that based on the Byram catalog, it tells me the sizes of the bags, which I like. I would go for a smaller bag than 11" long but not if having to use 1 size bag for day & another at night.

do you recall if you remember a manufacture date of the grey ones?

I again thank you so much for the help Karen and Dream to Dream.
