Flonaze (the nose spray) is sometimes wrongly recommended by online enthusiastic people who claim it feels better when they use it on Illeistomy leak wounds. To that I can attest it does.
However it was because I was doing things wrong, like washing the area with dehydrating antibacterial soap and drinking coffee, which made my leak burns more severe than normal due to the diarrhea effect of caffeine. So I was in pain, and Flonaze came to my rescue but at a price.
Flonaze is not an otosmy product, it's NOT an adhesive so what happens if it's used on leak wounds or other areas adhesive needs to bond firmly, it creates a smoother surface which pastes or rings don't attach well and output gets under it and causes the leak wounds to remain.
So the correct method is as follows:
1: Wash area with nothing but plain water. You don't want to upset the natural skin lubrication balance using drying soaps, ointments, conditioners etc.
2: Blow dry the area well.
3: Use one grain high dusting of stoma powder on only wounds if possible if needed. Brush or blow dry some more.
4: Use spray skin protectant and apply a light coat around stoma. Allow 30+ seconds to dry. Then another coat applied to the entire adhesive area and again allow 30+ seconds to dry . Use a blow dryer and then finger test the skin is dry.
5: Apply your no-sting paste or rings, wafer etc.
If you want healthy skin around the stoma again, just follow this recommend process. Occasionally you may have to gently scrub the skin with a wet wash cloth to remove built up skin protectant and/or dead skin cells.

I'm glad I saw your post. I had heard of using Flonase on YouTube. I actually asked my doctor, and he had never heard of doing that. After reading your post, I am definitely not going to try.

Re: Warning about using Flonaze as a skin protectant
The whole Flonase thing got me interested in getting better skin bonding of my barrier adhesive.
So now I've discovered oil free eye makeup remover and use that as a wafer adhesive remover and then after dry cleaning the stoma area, scrap off the stick on paste, then soaking the makeup remover around the stoma to remove the fine film of paste left that often goes missed as it can't always be seen.
Then washing the area a few times with plain soap and water to remove the makeup remover until the skin is squeaky clean all around.
Then dry it out well so when I apply the paste from the tube it will immediately stick to the skin all around the stoma.
Slap the wafer and some barrier strips and I'm good to go for another three days of pain free use.
My game really has changed since I switched to using the oil free eye makeup remover it's like I live a almost normal life now.

To my mind, using Flonaze as a skin protectant makes about as much sense as spraying a wafer adhesive up your nose. I'll pass on both.
