Pregnancy and Koch Pouch

Hi,

I have had my k pouch for 8 years and am now going through egg donor w/IVF to become pregnant. Has anyone had a pregnancy with their k pouch? Have you had any problems? My k pouch was the end result of ulcerative colitis and a failed j-pouch. I am really scared about becoming pregnant and have found it very difficult to find any information on the subject.

HI,

I don't have the personal experience you are asking about, but I went to www.google.com and searched on the words Kock pouch pregnancy, and got quite a few of what seemed like relevant responses.

One, a book about colon & rectal surgery, previews a page (#1430) in which they cite some #s from case reviews of women who had successful pregnancies ... though not without some temporary problems like more frequent night-time leaks, etc. Knowing that book exists, maybe your IVF doc can get you access to the full chapter.

I'm sure others will chime in here - but let me be the first to wish you success with your motherhood quest in 2008!

I have had two pregnancies with my Kock.
The first I was pregnant with twins. Just because of the nature of twins I was considered at risk and they were premies.

However, with both pregnancies I had no problems with intubating. My Kock was five years old at the time of my first pregnancy. I gave birth by c-sections both times and they went quite well....bikini cut.

My ob/gyn asked the surgeon for info regarding my pouch surgery just to be familiar with the "lay out of the land" so to speak. So you may want to provide your ob/gyn with op reports or at least the phone number of your surgeon for an info session.

Hello,

Thank you for all of your replies. I am definately going to research the answers that you all gave me. I forgot to mention, I also had two brooke ileostomies, a failed S pouch, W pouch, and J pouch, and the only one that has worked is the K pouch (knock on wood after 8 years). If anything happens to my K pouch I will more than likely end up with short bowel syndrome so I am being very careful.
